Est.
New lifestyle supplement and magazine of Die Berliner Zeitung
Published by Ostdeutsche Allgemeine
Launched on 17 September 2026 at Château Royal, Berlin
For the inaugural issue of Est., I contributed a German-language interview with the internationally renowned artist collective Slavs and Tatars, “Zwischen Berliner und Chinesischer Mauer” (“Between the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China”).
Marking twenty years of Slavs and Tatars, the conversation looks at their engagement with Eurasia and the cultural connections that reach across this vast region, exploring language and translation, humour, recurring symbols and the collective’s practice beyond the traditional exhibition space.
Est. is a new quarterly travel and culture magazine looking East, exploring fashion, design, travel, art and culinary culture from Eastern Europe to Central Asia. Through portraits, interviews and in-depth stories, it offers a closer look at the people, places and cultural scenes shaping this diverse region.

Taking its title from the 1974 song “Griechischer Wein” by Udo Jürgens and Michael Kunze, the exhibition reflects on Greece, migration and the longing for the sea, distant places, home and freedom. Set in Kreuzberg, once a major Gastarbeiter (“guest workers”) district of West Berlin and today shaped by a vibrant mix of cultures and communities, the exhibition revisits the melancholy of displacement evoked by the song from the perspective of the neighbourhood today.
Olivia Berckemeyer transforms KWADRAT into a Greek art taverna, bringing together 58 Berlin artists of diverse backgrounds. A sparsely laid table with two chairs stands on an island of sand, surrounded by artworks in a dense salon-style hanging. Through this shared space, Griechischer Wein moves between melancholy and joy, exploring diversity, freedom, togetherness and the pleasures of wine.
Participating artists: Johannes Albers, Dirk Bell, Olivia Berckemeyer, Matthias Bitzer, Antje Blumenstein, Dante Buu, Sarita Dey, Tobias Dostal, Gabi Dziuba, Martin Eder, Amélie Esterházy, Berta Fischer, Tine Furler, Axel Geis, Philip Grözinger, Cihangir Guemuestuerkmen, Oskar Gutheil, Lothar Hempel, Gregor Hildebrandt, Caro Jost, Lisa Junghänß, Daniel Kannenberg, Timo Klöppel, Stephanie Kloss, Katharina Koppenwallner, Svenja Kreh, Hans Krestel, Michael Kunze, Alicja Kwade, Kirsten Landwehr, Holger Liebs, Oliver Mark, Bernhard Martin, Isa Melsheimer, Daniel Mohr, Alex Müller, Anne Neukamp, Frank Nitsche, Maria Nitulescu, Jennifer Oellerich, Manfred Peckl, Renaud Regnery, Anselm Reyle, Michael Sailstorfer, Erik Schmidt, Pola Sieverding, Johanna Silbermann, Henning Strassburger, Lars Teichmann, Philip Topolovac, Maria Volokhova, Saskia Wendland, Tilman Wendland, Sador Weinsclucker, Hansa Wißkirchen, Peter Welz, Michaela Zimmer, Thomas Zitzwitz.

“The Winner’s Suicide” explores the Four Temperaments and conflict as a vital force shaping both the individual and society. Drawing on the ancient conception of the human psyche as a dynamic structure governed by opposing forces, the exhibition considers conflict not simply as rupture, but as a condition of transformation and equilibrium.
Moving between the individual and society, the exhibition looks at how identity takes shape through opposing forces and how the dominance of one over another can disrupt the equilibrium that sustains psychological and social life.
Participating artists: Enrico Basta, Leon Emanuel Blanck, Fulya Erdem, Francesca Genovese, Jaeyeol Han, Maria Nitulescu, Francesco Petruccelli, Dario Puggioni, Mara Sandrock.

Developed through an open call, the exhibition explores personal and collective memory through diverse artistic practices and media. It considers memory as something fluid and continuously reconstructed, connecting us to people, places, objects, landscapes, sounds and sensory experiences while also fading, fragmenting and transforming over time.
Bringing together different artistic positions, the exhibition approaches memory through personal histories, migration and belonging, places and landscapes, objects and archives, sound, materiality, absence and transformation. Rather than illustrating memory literally, the works explore the ways in which it can be preserved, questioned, reactivated or reimagined.
Participating artists: Gabriele Herzog, Marie Birkedal, Karolyn Morovati, Evangelia Pipila, Marc Räder, Vincent Marzillier, Andrea Breinbauer, Andrea Bonfini (FADE OUT Label), Lotte Günther, Mar Ripoll, xindi, Gregor Hazel, Birgit Szepanski, Toni Minge, Elio Graziano, Sophie Pester / Studio FLOR, JULEZ, Rory Midhani, Karmen Kraft, Paula Krause, Maria Nitulescu.

I took part in this collective exhibition presenting Love is Blind, a hand-blown glass work enclosing an artist-created scent, and “The Eyes of My Dreamed Hearing”, plaster ears scented with a petrichor-inspired accord developed in collaboration with master perfumer Geza Schön. Love is Blind was shown with an accompanying text. Read the text (PDF) →
